I used to think that good music didn't exist in this day and age.

I would dream myself back in time and fantasise about experiencing the bands, the venues, and the vibe that followed. Luckily I realised that I was just being a bit of a snob and there is still SO much amazing music out there!​

The goal with Beyond the Rising is to explore music of all genres and styles by interviewing the people behind it. These people who have the creativity to express themselves through their music, and the confidence to share it with the world deserve an endless amount of credit and recognition.

WHY THAT NAME?
THE AUSTRALIAN MUSIC SCENE
The name Beyond the Rising is inspired by the english rock legend Marc Bolan, who played a very important and memorable role in the glam rock movement in the early 70's with

I went to Melbourne in late January 2020 to explore the incredible music scene first hand and find some of the musicians behind it to interview.
​
No matter where you'd find yourself in the city of Melbourne, a live music venue would only be a stone's throw away.
Music is a huge part of their culture and an important factor to many of the locals lifestyles. Almost everyone I met either played in a band or had done in the past.
​
This place was like heaven and it felt like going back in time when rock was still the leading genre. Although I planned on staying for at least a year, the trip was cut short due to the pandemic so I only got to spend a couple of months there.

There are still a bunch of people in Melbourne I'd love to have on the website, so I will be back - sooner rather than later!

In 1965 at age 18, he created a track called Beyond the Rising Sun. This song has helped me cheer up through rough times, and therefore it has a very special meaning to me.
The way music can affect your mood and change your perception is one of the reasons why this website exits. To honour some of the artists who has chosen to share their art in a world where making it in the music industry can feel close to impossible. Of course not everyone is driven by the idea of "making it", but more so acting on the pure urge to express themself through music - music that helps millons of people in so many different ways.
