ABOUT THE BAND

Shane Parsons and Simon Ridley started off by forming an indie rock band called Velociraptor with a friend in 2008. While doing so they formed a new band called Denzel (DZ for short), where they performed and recorded their first EP at house parties in Brisbane. They have since then changed their name to DZ Deathrays.
At first they where a three-piece band but after their drummer left, Simon learned to play the drums and with Shane on the guitar and vocals they proceeded to play as a two-piece - without having any trouble filling in the sound.
Lachlan Ewbank has been the band's touring guitarist for years and has helped writing the songs for their third album Bloody Lovely. He has since then been welcomed into the band as a full time member and together the now three-piece band has released their fourth album Positive Rising: part 1.
In 2012 and 2014 they won two ARIA Music awards for "Best Hard Rock/Heavy Metal Album, and this year they were nominated yet again!

DZ Deathrays is a band that isn't afraid to try something new.
That shows in their two latest album releases - Bloody Lovely and Positive Rising: Part 1, where they have expanded their sound by having an overall more melodic and sometimes softer sound throughout their album.
They still stay true to the raw heavy-riffed guitar sound that their fans fell in love with to begin with, but their courage to experiment with different soundscapes has given them a reach to a wider audience, as well as offering the longtime fans something new and fresh.

DZ Deathrays spoke to me before their gig at Spillestedet Stengade in Copenhagen - the first stop on their European tour for their latest album release, Positive Rising: Part 1.
This was my first ever full interview and they were so friendly and also as incredible live as you would expect!
